2019: ACF seeks INEC, security agencies, neutrality

Ahead of the 2019 general election, apex Northern socio-cultural organization, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to maintain neutrality in the conduct of the elections.

Speaking when presidential candidate of the People’s Trust (PT), Mr. Gbenga Olawepo Hashim, paid a courtesy visit to the secre tariat of the forum yesterday in Kaduna, Acting chairman of the forum, Alhaji Musa Liman Kwande said a fair level playing ground must be provided to all political parties.

He also called on politicians to run issue-based campaigns and refrain from all forms of incitements that could cause crisis, before, during and after the elections.

Kwande, who noted that previous elections were marred by violence as result of the conducts of some politicians and their political parties, said such conducts should not be allowed to repeat itself in 2019.

His words: “In this respect, we appeal to the Police and other security agencies involved in ensuring peaceful election to live above board and maintain neutrality in the performance of their assignments. “We equally call on INEC to be an impartial umpire in the conduct of the 2019 general elections and ensure that a fair level playing ground is providedtoallpoliticalparties and their candidates” he said.

He also disclosed that Nigeria’s political terrain, at the moment, is fraught with negaive underpinning, adding that all citizens and political actors must cultivate the will and courage to free the country from all that could militate against its progress and development in all ramifications.

Kwande said Nigeria’s emergence as a multi-party democracy is a healthy development in the onerous task of nation building, noting that “it is significant, under the prevailing situation in our nationhood, to witness quite a prolific array of political formations and platforms under which each and every Nigerian can have expression.
