A notorious Boko Haram member who allegedly doubled as the head of a kidnapping syndicate in the South South and South West regions has been arrested by operatives from the Edo State Police Command.

SECURITY EXPRESS gathered that the suspect identified as Sani Mohammed who has been terrorising the South West recently relocated to Iguobazua area of Edo State. A dependable police source at Iguobazua said that Sani Mohammed has been involved in several cases of kidnapping. He is alleged to be the mastermind of most of the kidnappings in recent times in Edo State.

According to information pieced together concerning his activities, he is believed to be recruiting his gang members from amongst Boko Haram bandits displaced from Sambisa forest and distribute them to the forest in Edo State after supplying them with sophisticated weapons. Luck however, was said to be against him recently when he was tracked to his hide out at Iguobazua.

As at the time of filling this report, some police personnel at the Federal Criminal Investigation Department Annex, Adeniji Adele Lagos were said to have arrived Edo State to interrogate Mohammed on series of kidnappings in the South West. It is believed that he may be taken to Lagos for further interrogation.

The said Sani Mohammed was allegedly involved in the kidnapping of one Richard Ihensekhien and two ladies on the 23rd of January somewhere around Isi Ehor road. However, a source told SECURITY EXPRESS that
“there are fears in some quarters in Benin City that the police from Lagos may release Mohammed and his gang members.”. However, the reason for such fears could not be explained.
