Fayose threatens to dump PDP

8 October 2018   |

The governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose has threatened to quit the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) a little over 24 hours after the party elected its presidential candidate.

Before Fayose’s surprising announcement, there have been rumours that the Ekiti governor was planning to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress. But he said that will never happen.

“I remain in PDP and those associating me with the APC can continue to celebrate their own political self deceit,” Fayose said on August 5.

His about-face may have been a fallout from the just concluded national convention of the PDP.

“After consultations, I will speak clearly to Nigerians,” Fayose, who has been one of the most vocal critics of the Buhari government, said on Monday.
