NiMet Predicts Three Days Of Sunshine And Hazy Conditions Across Nigeria
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted a period of sunshine and hazy conditions from Saturday through Monday across different regions of the country.
In its weather outlook released on Friday in Abuja, NiMet projected that northern and north-central states would experience sunny and hazy conditions throughout the forecast period. Meanwhile, the southern region is expected to have cloudy skies with intermittent sunshine in the morning, followed by thunderstorms in parts of Ondo, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Edo, and Delta states later in the day.
For Sunday, NiMet reiterated its prediction of sunny skies and a hazy atmosphere over northern and north-central states. The southern region will continue to witness cloudy conditions with sunshine spells in the morning, while thunderstorms are anticipated in parts of Ondo, Oyo, Ekiti, Ogun, Edo, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa states later in the day.
By Monday, the northern and north-central regions are expected to remain under sunny and hazy conditions. The southern part of the country will again experience cloudy skies with occasional sunshine in the morning, followed by thunderstorms in Lagos, Edo, Bayelsa, and Cross River states later in the day.
NiMet advised the public to take necessary precautions as dust particles would be prevalent in the atmosphere, which may pose health risks, particularly for individuals with respiratory conditions such as asthma. The agency also cautioned that strong winds may precede thunderstorms in affected areas, urging residents to adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities.
Additionally, NiMet advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for better flight planning and encouraged residents to stay informed through regular weather updates available on its official website, www.nimet.gov.ng.
