The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has called on citizens to embrace patriotism and integrity for the nation’s development.
The appeal was made by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPCL, Olufemi Soneye, after a performance of the play *Once Upon Four Robbers*, written by Prof. Femi Osofisan, in Abuja.
Soneye stated that the choice of the play was deliberate, aligning with the Federal Government’s “Change Begins With Us” initiative to inspire Nigerians toward moral and civic responsibility.
“We are glad to be part of this,” Soneye remarked. “For us in NNPCL, the stage play emphasizes that change begins with each and every one of us as citizens. It not only promotes patriotism but also highlights the need for good morals and living a life of integrity.”
He continued, “Whatever we do in our daily lives, we should show a sense of patriotism and responsibility. This is the only way the country can grow and become a better society. NNPCL is committed to supporting initiatives like this in the future.”
Expressing gratitude to Prof. Osofisan, the drama troupe, and the audience, Soneye added, “Thank you for bringing the show to Abuja. We are glad to have supported this and will continue to support similar projects that promote positive values.”
Meanwhile, Prof. Femi Osofisan expressed amazement at the enduring relevance of the play, written decades ago, in addressing societal issues.
“I am surprised that after several years, the play remains topical and relevant to tackling immorality,” Osofisan said.
The play’s director, Dire Badejo, revealed his motivation for choosing *Once Upon Four Robbers* as a medium to address societal challenges.
“In January, I wanted to stage something unique that addresses societal crises,” Badejo shared. “I read extensively and selected this play to explore the root causes of our problems. Thanks to NNPCL, the cost of production was covered, enabling us to bring this important story to life.”
The three-day performance at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja featured a stellar cast, including Tunji Sotimirin, Frances Onwoche, Ropo Ewenla, Bukky Ogunnote, and Yemi Shodimu. The production now moves to the Muson Centre in Lagos, where theatre enthusiasts will have another opportunity to experience the thought-provoking play.
Badejo concluded, “I hope the play inspires audiences to reflect deeply and embrace positive changes in their lives and society.”
