NSCDC –Promotion galore beckons a new sense of direction and patriotism
The recent promotions of 39 senior officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) by the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board (CDFIPB) from the rank of Deputy Commandants to Commandants level including the promotion of other ranks and file has been applauded by well-meaning Nigerians as a good step in the right direction, as the promotion will enhance not only the staff morale but boost their loyalty to the nation and awakens their sense of purpose, patriotism, direction and responsibilities.
In a press release signed by the Executive Director, Research, of the Centre for Media Advocacy (CMA), Com. Sule Inuwa and Com. Dennis Esumobi, Head of Media respectively, they applauded and commended the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, for this laudable initiative to boost the morale of personnel in tackling vandalism, criminal elements and insurgency head-on across the length and breadth of the country. The CMA affirmed that the promotions across board will not only increase the espirit-de-corps of the rank and file but will also build the passion for the job and self-less service to the country, including giving their all whenever they are called upon. They emphasized that the promotion will boost staff morale, enhanced motivation and productivity as well as the welfare of officers and men taken into cognizance that a happy workforce will produce greater productivity and efficiency in all ramifications.
Accordingly, CMA reiterated that the high numbers of vandals, kidnappers and bandits that have been arrested and recorded these past few months are due to the new sense of direction and belonging given to the corps as a result of the proactive steps taken by management. They also commended the top echelon of the NSCDC for the current psychological profiling of officers and their mental wellbeing presently taking place across the country to ascertain their sense of combat and mental readiness including the forensic assessment test carried out so as to cope with the respective task ahead. No doubt according to CMA, this novel initiative should be encouraged and implemented by all and sundry. So as to prevent any untold occurrences within the security architecture, as the mental stability of personnel is very paramount in carrying out their respective duties and assigned roles.
The NSCDC Commandant-General Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu said during the promotion exercise, “Those promoted deserved their elevation, that apart from doing well in the examinations, other factors such as federal character and the availability of vacancies were taken into consideration during the promotional exercise and charged the new promoted officers to brace up for more responsibilities, adding that they must contribute their quota in tackling the rising wave of insecurity and must be loyal to the nation at all times’’. However, the spokesperson to the President, Mr. Femi Adeshina, eulogized the NSCDC leadership for their commitment to the security of lives and property, he said “This is the kind of Nigeria we deserve where things are done on merit and I want to commend the CG and recommends that he continues in this pattern”.
Also at the ceremony, a federal commissioner in the board, Mr. Ado Jafar affirmed that discipline and loyalty also played a role inthe promotion exercise, insisting that “You cannot command a unit if you are not a disciplined officer and commended the CG for his vision and blueprint for the NSCDC”.
Responding on behalf of the promoted officers, David Bille thanked the government for their elevation, asking that they will exceed all expectations in their new roles assigned to them.
It will be recalled that the Olofa of Offa, HRM Oba Mufutau Oleyede Kikiola Gbadamosi paid a courtesy visit to the CG recently in respect of the security and peace building mechanism of the Civil Defence Corps in his domain and canvassed for the approval of zonal offices in Offa to protect the security of lives and property which was immediately approved by the CG to combat vandals and the protection of critical national assets in the state.
